Essential File Formals

KML files

The KML file specifies a set of features (place marks, images, polygons, 3D models, textual descriptions, etc.) that can be displayed one maps in geospatial softwareimplementing the KML encoding. Each place always has a longitude and a latitude.

SHP files

The shapefile format is simple. It stores the data as primitive geometric shapes like points, lines, and polygons. These shapes, together with data attributes that are linked to each shape, create the representation of the geographic data.

CSV files

CSV is a common data exchange format that is widely supported by consumer, business, and scientific applications. Among its most common uses is moving tabular data between programs that natively operate on incompatible formats.
